BENEFITS

The eyelids are the first indicator of age. On the upper eyelids, extra skin gathers and hangs. Skin from the upper eyelids can droop onto the eyelashes and make us look tired. That tired look is made even worse when the lower eyelids decide to make their aging debut. Bags underneath the eyes can be accentuated by dark circles or even a hollow region just underneath the eyes.

DESCRIPTION

Upper eyelid surgery has the goal of removing extra skin while tightening the underlying muscle. Drooping eyelids may appear to be a just problem with the skin, but they are almost always a combination of both hanging skin and muscle. Lower eyelids also have a combination of extra skin and muscle. These issues are addressed in a similar manner as with the uppers. Lower eyelids have the added issue of bulging fat pads in many patients. One would think that the pads need to be removed, but that would leave a hollow. Generally, the best approach is to surgically compress and reposition them in order to flatten them.

RISKS

All surgical procedures carry risk. Anyone undergoing surgery must understand that even though the odds of a major event are small, risks from surgery are real. Whenever the skin is broken, there is the possibility of infection, necrosis, swelling, bruising, scarring, discoloration, nerve damage, itching, hematoma, pain, etc. Our goal is safety. We use a local anesthetic to decrease the risks associated with general anesthesia. We have you back for several post-op visits to monitor your healing. We are open 7 days each week and are accessible via email. We work together to reduce risk.
